The National University Bulldogs earned their first win of Season 74 of the UAAP against the UP Fighting Maroons, 75-66, behind 30 points from Bobby Ray Parks Jr.
The Fighting Maroons were ahead going into the 2nd half thanks to Jett Manuel and Jelo Montecastro, who combined for 23 points and led UP to a 43-40 halftime lead.
Parks went to work in the 3rd quarter, however, opening the period with a triple and scoring 9 points in all to give the lead back to NU going into the last canto, 59-53.
UP's offense went cold in the 4th quarter, as the Maroons were unable to score until the 6:06 mark of the 4th quarter.
The Maroons got as close as 6 points, 72-66, late in the 4th quarter, but Jeoff Javillonar sealed the game for NU with 3 straight charities.
The loss dropped UP to a 1-1 record.
Parks is now the 1st UAAP player to hit the 30-point mark since Ateneo's Rabeh Al-Hussaini also scored 30 points against the University of the East in August 13, 2009. Parks also added 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.
NU is set to face the league-leading Ateneo Blue Eagles in their next game.
"Next game is not Ray vs Kiefer (Ravena), it's NU vs Ateneo," Parks said after the game, referring to the Blue Eagles rookie Kiefer Ravena, who had led his team to a victory over De La Salle University last Saturday.
"It's gonna be a war we'll have to prepare harder for," Parks added.
