GMA News and Public Affairs Wins at the 32nd Telly Awards in New York!

GMA News and Public Affairs, the Philippines’ most awarded news organization, stamped its class anew with five citations – one silver and four bronze awards – in the 32nd Telly Awards in New York City, USA.

Bagging the silver award, the highest honor given by the highly prestigious New York City-based organization, is the GMA News and Public Affairs documentary PLANET PHILIPPINES for the Nature/Wildlife category. Hosted by top Kapuso star Richard Gutierrez, PLANET PHILIPPINES is GMA-7’s biggest and most comprehensive environmental documentary in 2009 that has garnered numerous awards and recognitions including the bronze medal in the 2010 New York Festivals Film and Television Awards.

GMA Network’s flagship primetime newscast 24 ORAS, in turn, received the bronze award in the News or News Feature category for its comprehensive coverage on the havoc brought by Super Typhoon Juan. 24 ORAS anchors and GMA News pillars Mike Enriquez and Mel Tiangco ably steered the news coverage with the news teams reporting from the provinces beaten by the typhoon.

Multi-awarded late-night newscast SAKSI, anchored by GMA News pillars Arnold Clavio and Vicky Morales, also received a bronze award in the same category for its special coverage on the highly controversial Vizconde Massacre case.

REPORTER’S NOTEBOOK’s “Huling Hantungan” episode won for the Kapuso Network its third bronze award in the News/News Feature category.

ART ANGEL, on the other hand, received the bronze award in the Children’s category for its special episode celebrating the National Children’s Book Day. ART ANGEL was recently replaced by the new Kapuso children program SABADABADOG.

Founded in 1978, the Telly Award honors the very best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs as well as the finest video and film productions and work created for the Web.

Aside from the Telly Awards, GMA Network has also earned recognition from award-giving institutions all over the world including, also recently, the US International Film and Video Festival, where IMBESTIGADOR walked away with the only USIFVF award for a Philippine program this year; the New York Festivals International Television and Film Awards; the Asian TV Awards; and two honors from the George Foster Peabody Award – making the Kapuso Network the only broadcast news organization in the Philippines to win the highly prestigious Peabody Award.
